TWO KIWIS AND TWO AUSSIES RACE ACROSS THE SAHARA DESERT BY KITE BUGGY ...
Mad Way South is a trans-tasman challenge like no other - man and machine pitted against the harshest environment in the world at the end of the Saharan Summer - Two Aussies and Two Kiwi's racing in Kite Buggies across 2,500 km of the worlds toughest terrain to claim the rights to be the first to have ever crossed this desert by wind power alone.
The brain child of adventurer Geoff Wilson - this wind powered odyssey began as a challenge and evolved into a race with the inclusion of the Kiwi team - Steve Gurney and Craig Hansen. Garth Freeman completes the foursome of mad wind driven men set to start racing from Northern Morocco on August 3rd 2009. Mad Way South will also be a forum for road testing and demonstrating the effectiveness of survival and outdoor equipment. We will also focus on promoting eco-friendly, carbon neutral travel. The entire adventure will be filmed and an adventure series made by Jason Markland Productions in association with Lincoln Williams of Fotomedia.
Get a sneak preview of all the adventures by staying tuned to Mad Way South. Ahead of time - we thank all our Sponsors, supporters, family and friends - without whom there would be no Mad Way South.

This will be the 1st trans-Saharan crossing attempted by wind power alone, it will also be the longest kite buggy journey ever attempted, 2,500km crossing the borders of Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, ending in Dakar, Senegal.
The purpose for the Mad Way South Sahara Challenge is to raise awareness of the plight of women and children who have been forced into commercial sexual exploitation in Cambodia. All funds raised will assist “SHE Rescue Home – Cambodia” in their great work providing refuge for these girls who are at a high risk of being or have been trafficked. Mu Soc Hua - the minister for women's affairs in Cambodia estimates that as many as 30,000 women and children are involved in the sex trade in her country. Despite the best efforts of the Cambodian government children are still trafficked and involved in sex trade. Mad Way South is a forum for this message to get out there - ALL ADVENTURERS ARE SELF FUNDED - All monies raised go directly to the girls in need via support of the She Rescue Home in Cambodia.
